In 1986, Michael Christensten, creative director of the Big Apple Circus in New York, was invited to perform at the “Day of the Heart,” in a New York City hospital. Michael decided to do a routine about hospital procedures, while introducing himself as a new “doctor” at the hospital.
The results were surprising: children, who were depressed and apathetic, actively participated in this “little white lies” games. By replacing traumatic images with cheerful and fun procedures, patients found a new way to face their daily routine at the hospital..
